Luther wrote that “pride is the mother of all heresies, indeed as both sacred and profane history testifies, it is the source of all sin and ruin.” [Luther, Lectures on Galatians, LW 27:97; Augustine, Reply to Faustus 22. 22]

"Moses once told the Israelites that God would raise up a prophet like him for them and that he was to be listened to. That day arrived for the prophet to come. He was gentle and humble in heart. When he was insulted he did not retaliate. When he suffered he made no threats."
http://www.nnyredemption.com/podcast/pride/

"Imagine life without the Gospel. For many people, even for many people that we know, this is their reality. What would such a life be like? How would we live, think, be? Without the Gospel we have only the law, only demands, rules, a raging conscience which is devouring us or which is caged and ignored. Without the Gospel there is no Jesus on the cross, no forgiveness of sin by His blood, no comfort in His Word. What is the result of such a void?

The answer is two-fold: pride or despair. A Pharisee or a Judas. Without the Gospel we are flung toward pride on the one hand, and despair on the other. Our Lutheran Confessions give us this insight:"

On commenting about Romans 7 Luther wrote:
"That “God is justified in His words” (Ps. 51:4 [Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)] ) means that He is made just and true in His words or that His words are made just and true. And this takes place in believing them, accepting them, and holding them as true and just. The only thing that can resist this justification is pride of the human heart through unbelief. For this pride does not justify but condemns and judges. Therefore it does not believe His words, since it does not regard them as true." [LW 25:210]

The sin of pride refuses the forgiveness of Christ. That forgiveness that can only come from Jesus' death on the cross. None of our efforts can achieve what is necessary to receive eternal life with God since we are tainted with sin and sin cannot be forgiven apart from Jesus' blood, the same blood of that man who died on the cross for us; for the forgiveness of the sin of the world.

Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin
Acts 13:38-39

We see that sin of pride everywhere....

As in "Justification actually depends on ME..... my decisions, my actions, my repentance, my good works, my feelings... I'm the Savior of me because I'm all I need, I'm good enough (pat self on back)." Jesus made just a helper or teacher or inspiration or door opener- possibility maker.

As in "God gave the Bible and the Holy Spirit just to ME cuz I'm ME.... so I will tell everyone else what God MEANT to inspire into His Word (but blew it).... I alone will tell you what God MEANS and how it's not what He said... cuz I'm ME and I'm all God and everyone needs."

Do you agree that pride prevents humbleness?

Luther is an epitome of pride.

Arrogance is a part of the principality of air that leavens bread and boast of doing so.

There is a power that corrupts"
Rendering evil for evil"

Bless those that curse"

How is Luther an epitome of pride?
Luther rendered evil for evil..

Instead of shattering a cup of devils.
Luther challenged with cup of pride molded by his own hands.

There is only a single cup and 7 peices of armor freely given the Faithful.

And no amount of parchment from Sorcerors who lie about history will change The Name that children are baptised in.

Blessed be The Holy One

Doesn't even mention Luther - at all, for anything, about anything.
Doesn't even mention any of the 95 Thesis - not one, not at all, for anything, about anything.

I'm not sure this person even understands what The 95 Theses were.

Pride isn't always bad like if you have pride in your child. It's when it points to self and makes oneself a mini-god that things go wrong.

I think the point is that pride keeps us from humbling ourselves and being willing to receive what God wants to give us. If we become prideful we think we can do things on our own or that we can rescue ourselves. The truly humble person has to accept God's free gift without trying to earn it. It takes humility to realize that no matter how hard you may try you will never be good enough

God works hard to humble the proud, doesn't He?
