Do you have the Ring doorbell or something similar? My cousin has something similar and she gets notifications on her phone when someone rings the doorbell and she can answer them and pretend she's home when she's not. There is no monthly fee for the one she bought and I'm somewhat interested in this but no one really comes to my door and I'd forget it was an app on my phone after a while LOL

I don't care for the idea of things like that. They seem to increase a sense of paranoia as people want to spend more and more time watching just in case anything happens, and they have a great potential to introduce a huge surveillance state by the back door.

I remember a quote about people who trade liberty for security.

I have a co-worker that has a very nice one, I don't think it's a Ring. I am in the market for one, it's not for security reasons, I live in a nice quiet neighborhood were something seldom happens. But as he's used his for communicating with his lawn maintenance people or any other workers that come to the door, he can remotely let them in. As he gets deliveries two or three times a week as do I, I would like to know when they have been delivered. Amazon sends me a message, so that's good but I also get medical stuff from other places that I don't want sitting out in the elements. I would love to let a visitor in and not have to rush home because they are coming and then they're late and made me rush home to wait on them! Yes, people usually call me on the phone if I'm not there and they are in front of my door, but I have no way of letting them in so they can wait inside the house instead of my driveway.

When I'm going to be away for a long time I let my neighbor know that I'm waiting for a delivery and then they are on the lookout all day long for me. I would just like to call them and tell them it's at the front door, or wherever it was left.
