Good on you for getting this clock and fixing it yourself. May I ask if it's another Gingerbread Mantel Clock or some other type of clock?

It's a mantle clock but not a gingerbread type. I would post a picture but it's in a dark corner of the basement so I'm not sure how easy it would be to get at it. It, along with several others, has been covered over with sheets for some considerable time, to protect them from dust in the basement.

Now I've got my mojo back to get on with the house project maybe I'll have a workshop to play with clocks again before too long.

What a beauty and thank you so much for taking the time to take pictures and post them. Just two more questions, if you don't mind:

1. Is it a solid frame or a takedown? (Hard for me to determine from the photo)

2. Can it be slam-fired?

I think these can be disassembled, though it might be an effort, so probably not a quick field take down for packing. I once had a Savage double barrel (side by side) 12 gauge that could easily be taken down and I could stow it in my backpack.

I have a load of clocks. Some of them work. I have one I bought from a guy at an antique show on the basis it didn't work properly so really hammered him down on the price. Then when I got it home I literally used a piece of pegwood to get the balance wheel turning and it's been working just fine ever since. It also has a lever to switch from silence to Westminster or Whittington chimes. I like the Whittington chimes, so use that setting.

Nice. I have a Howard Miller Grandfather clock that also has a chime lever. The lever has four options Westminster, St. Michael's, Whittington and silent. It's nice to have one clock that you can switch up the chime sound.

When I've got space for a new case for it, and got myself a workspace that's suitable for clock movements, it's a project I'm looking forward to tackling. I'm not sure if I can carve detailed trim for it, or if I'll end up with a totally different design if I can turn something suitable on a lathe to give it something more than a simple geometric box as a case. Maybe I'll be able to lay my hands on some wood offcuts and make some fancy insets or something. There's a local cabinet shop that often has offcuts that they sell very cheaply, so once I've got some work space sorted out I'll keep an eye on them.

"Before" isn't hugely impressive, the case is in pieces in the basement - much of it is plywood and the very top section (the part that holds the movement) is damaged from where it was dropped. If the price of wood doesn't go stupid I'm expecting the new case to be made from something nicer. Maybe oak, maybe walnut, depending on the price of wood at the time. I like the dark color of walnut, but like the grain of oak. Or maybe I'll go for something like southern yellow pine - it's a cheaper wood but I really like the look of it, especially when it's stained and lacquered.

It was actually me who dropped it. It needed attention before I dropped it and needs more attention now. I bought it at an estate sale very cheaply because it wasn't in great shape (the movement looked fine, as best as I could tell) and nobody could tell if it even worked or not, and when I loaded it into my car I didn't know the very top came off. I found out soon enough....

The face and movement appear to have survived unscathed, the case less so. Most of the case needed some TLC and some of it needed to be rebuilt, so it was a shame rather than a disaster.

I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff. Round here people call it SYP but I'm not aware of any difference. I guess anything referred to as "southern" loses the prefix the further south you go
