I still vividly remember the first time I wrote a computer program and it did what I wanted...this was on a TRS-80 III with a cassette drive using BASIC. My program used the sieve of Eratosthenes to compute prime numbers. I was hooked; it seemed the possibilities would be limitless. After a 10 year hiatus, I decided to get back into coding when I was promoted to admin at my favorite math help site, and while much had changed, coding is still coding. To be an effective vBulletin coder, you have to know HTML, CSS, javascript/jQuery, PHP and MySQL, so there was a substantial learning curve, but it's all starting to come together now.
