One book that I want to recommend is The DNA of Relationships by Gary Smalley. There are a lot of good points in this book, most of which are found in the first two sections. Two or three take away for me is when he talks about the marriage intensives that a group that he works with started. That many of the conflicts that people have start with a core fear. A core fear could be something like a fear of being misunderstood, devalued, rejected or abandoned. That many times this fear is underlying the reasons we react the way we do and we don't even realize it.
The second idea he had which is not unique to Gary is what he calls the "power of one". This means that I am responsible for my actions, beliefs, feelings and thoughts regardless of what another person does. I can't blame the other person for my behavior or excuse it because of the way another person treats me. I also like the way Gary talks a lot about honoring other people and treating the as valuable. Gary's book is very biblically based and well thought out and I would highly recommend it to you. It would help not just in marriage relationships, but in other relationships as well
