The Anglo-American invasion of Iraq in 2003 has served to highlight the fact that any member of the UN Permanent Security Council is de facto immune from UN sanctions because they'd always have the power to veto any UN Security Resolution.

They effectively have the power to flout the international law due to their power of veto within the Security Council.
