What do you think of super rich celebrities doing fundraisers...for themselves....because they lost everything in the fires in LA?

If people want to give to someone who has unimaginably more than they have, they are free to do so.

It seems a bit tone deaf to ask for money to replace your third mansion when others have literally nothing left, but that seems to sum up a lot of celebrity culture. It's all about me, after all.

When regular people lose everything in a fire it's easy to ask why they didn't have insurance. Maybe a regular working person had to choose between feeding their child and paying their insurance, and chose to feed their child. It's hard to imagine a celebrity facing that decision.

I wouldn't donate to them myself. Though I do wonder if these celebrities ARE super rich. They are probably sinking in debt OR their assets are not quickly turned into cash. Just another possible way to look at it.

Maybe, but if your $14,000,000 mansion is destroyed by fire maybe the first port of call would be to look for a cheaper property before asking your fan base to help you fund another mansion.

If you can afford the downpayment on a mortgage for a mansion that price the chances are you can buy a regular property with cash. You can turn anything into cash if you need to - you might not get a great price for it but it's a bit rich (pun fully intended) to ask those who are relatively poor to fund you so that you don't have to cash in a less liquid investment and take a loss on it. If you can't turn something into cash quickly you can probably take out a loan secured against it.
