I try to keep my workspaces at least moderately clean throughout the year. Dirty workspaces are more likely to cause me problems, either by endlessly disturbing settled dust or more severe hazards like sharp things on the floor.

As far as is practical I like my working spaces to be clean enough after I've finished that I feel comfortable walking barefoot through them.
