Lazy morning. Thinking about going for a run but its 32 degrees outside which puts a dampener on my motivation. I've got my thermal camera freshly charged so maybe I'll take it over to where I was working yesterday to see if it can see specific points the cold air is coming in.

The forecast is for the temperature to reach the dizzy heights of about 36 degrees later today so depending on what the wind is like I may yet go out. My wife is watching the church service on Faceache. There's not much point me watching it, I was part of the group that recorded it so I've seen it and heard it already.

Preparing to go and fix some more of my house. The thermal camera showed me a couple of small things I didn't expect and, since they should be the kind of things I can fix in just a few minutes, I might as well get on and address them. Then I can decide whether to continue pulling down drywall in the room I started work on yesterday, or just poke fiberglass into the gaps that show dark blue on my thermal image and be done with it for now.

I've done some figuring and think that tomorrow I'm going to go and get some lumber. What I want to do is line the window wells with thermal insulation and sound insulation. I'm thinking if I seal the outer face with foam to make sure I don't get water in there, then some thermal insulation that's water resistant, then a solid block of wood with sound deadening material on both sides of it (slightly offset, to let it move and absorb the noise, than another layer of thermal insulation, it should make quite a difference to both heat and noise. I just need to get a bunch of construction lumber and get it cut to size. While I'm at it I'm going to get some more lumber and make wall studs in one of my basement rooms. I'm not sure if I'll hang drywall on it (probably not) but I can use it to hang shelving or even just as a place to store some of my growing piles of wood.

I got some sealant applied to my windows. It's still showing dark blue on the thermal camera but it might just need chance to come up to regular temperature. When it's all finished there will be a windowsill in front of it, so it's not as if it will permanently leak into the room. I poked fiberglass into a few other spaces although I think I'm going to end up pulling down at least some of the drywall. I really would prefer to leave it but it's worth nailing problems that sap the heat in one area, simply because it saves money on heating over the longer term.

My wife didn't want to go walking with me but did want to stop by the church to get some stuff. I wanted to get a run in today and the church is just a liittle shy of 5k from my house, if I take a quieter route. So she went to the church the most direct way in the car, I ran slightly past the church, and then had a ride home waiting for me. For good measure I beat my personal best for a 5k, which was nice :)

Howdy sup there? How’s it going so far with your day? Today, I’ve just had my usual weekly 3 hours therapy session. Tonight, I’m just Indeed really way too exhausted to do anything but rest in bed before heading the sack.

Just contemplating what to do with today. Having spent longer than was really good struggling with motivation to do a whole lot I'm aware there's still much to do, it's just a question of sequencing and figuring just what needs to be done and when. For good measure I've got some coding projects I let slip over the summer months when I was out walking so much. I'll need to refresh my memory exactly how far I got with those and pick up the loose ends too.

Took a while to get motivated today but eventually I went and bought myself two pieces of 2x10x12 lumber. That's enough to make the pieces to fill 12 of my window wells. I've got two cut to size with thin standoffs and sound deadening rubber applied to them and just about got them into place. I need to find something that's better at cutting the rubber than my Stanley knife. If I can cut it ever so slightly oversize I can trim it with the table saw - it makes a mess spraying chips of rubber everywhere but it cuts it to an exact size and I can always clean up the rubber with my shop vac.

I've got another piece of wood cut to fit another window well but haven't cut the rubber material to fit it yet. Perhaps tomorrow I'll go to the hardware store to see if they have anything I can use to cut it - a Stanley knife will cut it but it's really hard to cut a straight edge on it and I'm always wary of the chance of the knife slipping and cutting something in its path (specifically some part of me).

Maybe tomorrow I'll try cutting it to width using the table saw and pinning the cut pieces to the wood. If it works it will be nice and clean, it's just a question of how well it will work.

Pending getting my window wells sealed up I'm stuffing them with offcuts of fiberglass to keep the cold out.

Hello morning all! How are ye all doing today? This morning, I’ve just gone out in the cold for a most refreshing and peaceful walk, meditation, breathing exercises and meditation outside. The afternoon, just playing some games on my Switch before turning myself in tonight.

I got to pulling down some more wall today, trying to figure out where my nasty draft is coming in. It turned out to be a lot less ugly than I expected, although a decent fix is going to take some more demolition. For now I've stuffed fiberglass into the spaces it seems to be coming from, so hopefully that will solve the problem even if only temporarily. I'm not really wanting to gut the entire room just now, I just want to dismantle the absolute minimum so I can block the drafts and stop the relentless source of cold air.

It's supposed to be a bit warmer later in the week, so maybe I'll take the chance to fill a couple of holes in the exterior brickwork, drill another hole for a new cable to go through, run a cable that will ultimately power an outside light (and seal around it, to avoid letting cold air in!), and clean up a couple of other nasty bits on the outside brickwork. That will feel like at least something of an achievement.
