Didn't expect to sleep in so late this morning. I'd been tired yesterday evening (a combination of having a not-so-great night the previous night and working in the woods) but this morning I barely even stirred until my wife woke me just before 9.

Anyone have any interesting articles for me to read while I'm in the waiting room?
I've been bored mindlessly hitting random over and over again on wikipedia, I found out that 95% of world wide knowledge is sports based

If you're still interested in articles I found a few (I'd need to try and hunt them down again) looking at some of Elizabeth Warren's proposals and considering how they would help or harm the economy. Many of them appear notionally well-meaning but badly misguided - as one article about payday loans put it, the people who use payday loans don't typically use them because they temporarily misplaced their American Express Platinum card, and if they become heavily regulated all that will happen is that they will go away completely leaving the people at the bottom of the heap with no access to credit at all. It noted that a theoretical rate of 8,186% APY looks obscene when compared to the 5.9% charged by something like a car loan but also compared the actual cash cost (perhaps $13 on a loan of $100 for two weeks) to the costs it might help avoid (late credit card fees, default charges etc).

In the UK the standard example of using a payday loan was if you've gone to collect a car from the garage only to find the bill higher than expected. The garage won't give the car back until you pay them, you don't have enough credit on your card and the bank is closed so you can't even talk to them. So you use the mobile app and within 15 minutes you've got money in your bank account. In a situation like that a payday loan may make sense, even if only as a last resort. If people get a call from a friend to invite them out for a couple of beers and instead of saying they can't because they're a bit short that month they take out a loan for $50 and figure they'll pay it back at the end of next week when they get paid, the fault is with the user rather than the loan.

Two hikes in two days. Yesterday I did one vista hike with my wife. She likes to do that walk but she walks more slowly than I do. It's nice to walk with her and stop at the top to enjoy the view. Then today I did another hike at my pace. My fitbit is suggesting the walk is getting shorter, so I assume what it means is I'm getting fitter and maintaining a longer stride length up the hills. I always thought the walk was about 9 miles but today it gave me a distance of 8 miles. Maybe I am getting fitter than I realise, although it felt like a battle today. It was hot and quite humid, so by the time I got back to the car my shirt was soaked with sweat.

This evening we're going out for dinner. Our anniversary is coming up and there's a local place we both like.

Happy Anniversary!

Thanks :)

The place we went to eat was a local brewpub that does really good food and good beers. My wife tried a new menu item and it was absolutely amazing. The waitress who served us is one we've had wait on us a few times before and she's really good - she looks after us well and we tip her well, so we both leave happy.

Waiting for the rain that we needed to stop so I can walk. It's going to only be in the 60s today.

It's cooler here as well. Temperatures today are far more conducive to walking than yesterday - when I got back after my walk yesterday one of the park staff asked if I had to choose the hottest day for a month to go for my hike. Sometimes it just works out that way. Earlier in the year I raced the rain when I went for one of my circular walks, and almost won. I got to within about 10 minutes of the end before the heavens opened. When I got back to the park office I walked in like a drowned rat.

Sadly it looks like we're going to get enough patchy rain for enough of the day that going out to walk isn't happening :(

Wondering what to eat for breakfast. Going out to run errands as soon as the shops open.

Just went for our regular walk around town with my wife. Next up is some more cementing and hopefully before long I can get some more insulation panels into place.

Went out for a walk in the woods. 1950 feet of climbing over a little more than 8 miles. The walk seems to be getting shorter according to Fitbit so I can only assume what's happening is that I'm getting stronger and maintaining a longer stride length for more of the uphill sections.

Just got back from an impromptu date night. My wife suggested going to our favorite brewpub. Usually I'm a little cautious because it's not a cheap place to go, but needed a change of scenery. It was a really good evening.
