I have just gotten done with my notes for work and it is 10 pm.
I have a 5k race in the morning on my favorite trail with a couple of hundred other people. I hope it isn't too crowded.

Sitting around trying to muster enthusiasm to either run some cables or write some code. Not feeling hugely enthusiastic about either right now.

My daughter just moved back home unexpectedly today. We are glad to have her home. We cleaned up the spare room and I found a bunch of stuff I haven't seen in a long time

Trying to figure if my wife's car needs trivial work done to it or whether it's time to retire it and get another one. At present it won't drive meaningfully, so it's soon to be towed to a nearby garage to try and see what might be wrong with it.

Another helping of Fun With Cables. I started some electrical work the other evening but part way through my motivation just abandoned me, so I reconnected the minimum to be functional and safe and figured I'd do it when I was thinking clearly. That was today. Now I've got one socket that was wired to the same circuit as all my power tools in the basement connected to a different circuit, and two other sockets that I cut off because they were wired using knob and tube, replaced with new grounded sockets and, well, grounded.

Pondering my wife's car I'm thinking it's beyond my expertise for now, not least because my expertise of car mechanics (at least beyond a theoretical concept) is more or less zero at the moment. So it's sitting at the garage waiting for one of their wrenches to look at it.

I suspect it's either going to be a trivial part with an intermittent fault - a guy I knew years ago had a similar issue and having spent hundreds on replacing one part after another it turned out to be a part worth less than $30 that went open circuit once in a while - or it's going to be something like the transmission that's going to have me talking to the dealership with a view to getting another car. If it proves to be time for a new car, I'm hoping the fact a totally new model is coming out in two months is going to mean I can score a big discount on the current model. That would be nice.

Finishing up some power washing on the house today.

Just went for a walk around town with my wife. There's a circuit we like to walk that's a little under 3 miles. Curiously as we were nearing home we saw a car approaching that looked familiar. As it got closer it looked even more familiar. Then we realised it was my wife's car. The driver waved in recognition. So obviously the garage has managed to get it to drive, although whether it's driving smoothly or under protest remains to be seen. It was coming down a hill, so presumably they managed to get it to go up the hill, which itself is a step forward from yesterday when the tow truck driver managed to drive it onto the back of the tow truck but had to have a couple of goes at it.

Maybe her car isn't terminal. That would be nice, I'd really rather not be shelling out for a new car right now.

Then for good measure we got home to find we won a gift basket in a prize draw we entered last week and forgot about. It includes a free overnight stay in an area we've talked about visiting for a while now. So perhaps we get a double whammy of not needing a new car (which means we've got spare cash for a mini break) and a free night to make the mini break cheaper. That would be a nice combination.

Congratulations on your gift basket win! That's always exciting when you aren't expecting something like that.

We are done power washing. There is still green stuff that won't come off so we'll have to do it yet again another day. I bought some Jomax and outdoor bleach to mix with the water and run it through and it helped a lot. It's just that it didn't completely remove all the mold/mildew from the siding.

Enjoying a quiet Sunday afternoon after a wonderful Divine Service and a reinvigorating nap after Sunday School.
