The thread title itself testifies to what this topic is about: Clickbait. You see it all over online especially with newspapers. What do you guys think about newspapers and journalists using clickbait to drive attention to their stuff? Sometimes I suppose it can be fine, but if its used in a negative manner, it really just is used for personal gain.

Never heard of "chick bait." Don't think I've witnessed it.

There are sites (such as "the website that shall not be named" that many of us previously were active at) that are business, loaded with pop up ads and such (VERY annoying). There have always been profiteers who are crafty in making money off of faith - and some websites are owned by such.

If the bait is a gross misrepresentation/exaggeration of the subject matter intended to ultimately get subscribers or redirect for some sort of product/service sale - then it's a form of false advertising and is unethical.

With information coming from all sources these days, I don't blame journalists and newspapers for trying any new method to lure in readers/viewers. After a while people get used to the same tactics and stop clicking so eventually a new method will have to be thought up.
