Should Facial recognition Be Used Widely?

I saw the other day that facial recognition is the next big fight about privacy. Proponants say it has an 87 per cent accuracy rate. Opponants say it will be a gross invasion of privacy if widely used. What say you?

Privacy issues, stores can use this to their advantage and track people, could also be uused to track anyone. Personally I think we have given up enough freedoms in the name of safety

Privacy is one. Stores could track you and develop preferences and all sorts of other data and I really dont like the government intrutions we already have what with phone records and all the rest that they have access to. Facial recognition would just add even more invasion of our privacy, they would be able to track us 24 7.

Good points. What i find most disturbing is, why would we want to EVER give stores, gov't, or ANYONE such access to our privacy? At what expense? As you say it's ALREADY bad enough.

While this is not facial recognition, I use Touch ID with my fingerprint for my phone. Your fingerprint can easily be used to track you. With facial recognition, the benefits can be great, and while the tracking issue is a con, you can be tracked through nearly everything.

Its true I just dont like the idea of someone knowing where I am 24 7 just by a mouse click or with no real reason to know. I think we have lost far to many of our freedoms in the name of safety

it's a HUGE, and yet unrealized far-reaching consequences for a bit of convenience.....

Once we allow this sort of thing to chip away at our rights and liberties, and we've reached a point of no return, those rights and liberties are lost forever, never to be gotten back....

The huge problem with facial recognition is the privacy concerns that come with it. There are tracking issues, too, with the central authority being able to track our movements. I do not doubt that AI will be in our daily lives in the years ahead but whether it's positive is something we will only know in the future.

No, but the US doesn't take privacy seriously enough to stop it. The Supreme Court hasn't taken a very strong position on a constitutional right, and neither party has shown interest in legislation.
