I put this here since it's somewhat of an art form to do shadow boxes.

My nephew was in the Army and did 2 tours overseas. He gave me his uniforms and other uniforms from other countries along with patches, etc...he wants me to create shadowboxes.

I don't think he wants me to use hot glue to keep things in place. What options do I have to keep these items in place without having a huge pin showing in front and without permanent damage being done to the items?

Shadowboxes are a collection of things in a thick frame. People make shadowboxes for wedding gifts that might include the garter, the invitation, an engagement and wedding photo, maybe the pen that was used for the guest book and it's all displayed nicely. My nephew has memorabilia from other country's military and he would like to have those things grouped together in 3 different collections to display since he went to Afghanistan and Iraq and met many people from other countries.

Maybe you can make wire stands clothed with the uniforms to display them.

He wants the collection of things displayed in a box. Your idea is a nice one.

He has patches and other things that will go with the uniforms he has collected from other military friends in various countries. No guns though ;)

Had never heard of it, but there's a lot of answers if you google it.

Thank you!! This is very helpful with the idea of using styrofoam behind the cloth and some type of pin. It also stated backing the patches with a fabric and gluing it but this will be a very tight display so the patches will be overlapping the uniforms so the pin thing might have to be my choice. I just need to choose pins that don't rust in case he moves to a humid area!
