What makes more sense financially, sell your car "as is" or pay for new brakes and then sell?

Age and mileage really comes into play as well as whether or not the person has money to put down for a different vehicle.

My daughter has a used car that needs work, so she's getting it done because the miles aren't high and she doesn't have money to pay for a newer vehicle. Plus, she got it from a friend of a friend, so she knew the vehicle was well taken care of.
