My daughter's boyfriend is vegan and brought some seitan over yesterday to go on one of the vegan pizzas since we were making all kinds of pizzas for Father's Day. Seitan is made from wheat and when cooked has a meaty texture to it. This one was flavored with barbecue sauce and it tasted pretty good. If I didn't know it was vegan I would assume it was an exotic meat.

Glad it was good.... I learned long ago, "DON'T ASK"... just taste.

If one really misses that chew-for-long-time texture of animal muscle, seitan may be right for them in choosing alternatives. I haven't seen it for sale here in Australia (maybe it is, I just haven't seen it), and I made it once...sort of a pain in the butt. As with meat, how it is flavored with vegetable based products is key, as it is with tofu and other meat alternatives.
