My congregation is very social which is good and bad IMO concerning sacred space. Upon entering the sanctuary before the service is called to order it's still pretty much a meet and greet which is not conducive to preparing yourself for worship. I'd prefer others would socialize before or after the service. Although during the 'exchange of peace' we are great at greeting visitors and making them feel welcome, in fact we have to be called back to order to get on with the service which we often make lite of.

In my parish church upon entry silence is kept by most except for a nod or a smile and some who pray quietly. After the mass silence is mostly maintained as people exit and enter the foyer or go to the hall for coffee/tea and a chat. The church is regarded as sacred space for worship of God.

I appreciate that about Catholism. Often during the week, on the way home from work, I know which parishes are open for Eucharistic adoration. Makes for a great atmosphere of reverence for prayer.

Many Catholics take to heart what God said about his worship - By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored and true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers and You shall be holy, for I am holy. Of course some do not. But God willing all who serve the Lord will be holy because God is holy.

My friend George is EO and he sometimes posts here. We talk on the phone about church a lot and he has a great reverence for the space and the service and they have a very high church liturgy. .

That's me.
