In another thread someone asked a member about remembering her baptism.

Luther was quoted as saying, "Remember your baptism!" and he wasn't insinuating that you try to remember that exact day but to remember the promises God gives in baptism.

Does your denomination reflect the importance of baptism and what God does through it?

Yes. That is why we make the sign of the cross with holy water whenever we enter the Church building.

I know a lot of non-Catholics who don't realize why Catholics do that. They don't understand why people make the sign of the cross either so they mock it. Not all people, but a lot of people who are anti-Catholic. I have Baptist friends who would much rather mock Catholics then ask why they do certain things.

At our church we have the baptismal font at the front of the sanctuary so that it is there for us to see as a reminder of our own baptisms. Some members might have been infants when they were baptized but that doesn't meant that God doesn't remember He has baptized them.

Some Catholic Church buildings have the baptistery near the Foyer so that all who enter pass by it. The reason for this architectural arrangement is to make visible the meaning of baptism. Specifically that one must be baptised to enter the Church (body of Christ). As a consequence those entering the building who are already baptised dip their finger into the flowing water of the baptistery and cross themselves as a reminder of their baptism and in sign of their participation in the costly sacrifice of Christ.

Baptism is very important and there are a lot of verses in the bible pointing to it yet I don't hear of many denominations outside those that are liturgical that consider their baptism. Perhaps it's because they reject God's working in baptism?

Those who have credobaptism tend to think of baptism as symbolic.

And yet with so many verses in the bible speaking of baptism, it's surely more important according to God.

I do not know how credobaptists interpret passages that speak of forgiveness of sins coming with baptism or the passage in Romans chapter six that says we die & rise with Christ by baptism. But I am sure that they do. Just as some who say works play no role whatever in Justification find a way to read James chapter two and interpret "You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone" to mean that works play no role in Justification.

Ah but that verse is speaking to those already justified in a different tense than what you're taking it ;) James is talking to the believer on how faith without works is dead. Our works don't add to our salvation at all since the Savior is the one who saves.

Like I said, credobaptists will find a way to interpret that leads to their doctrine just as you have with James 2:24.

This isn't a works righteousness kind of thread so let's not go there with that debate AGAIN.

Yes, people interpret scripture differently. That doesn't mean they should disregard their baptisms.

Frankly, I don't have a clue why those who hold to credobaptism or paedobaptism would not also remember their baptism and feel good about that. It might be different, I suspose, from what I personally rejoice in - but they would be EQUALLY appropriate to share in this thread. IMO. Perhaps Lamm disagrees.
