When does scientific research become unethical?

Scientific research becomes unethical when it seeks to learn, and understand truth about the universe or man, without God.

Man and science then become the source of truth. So they like to believe.

When does scientific research become unethical?

I have a Ph.D. in Physics....

Your question - while kind of unusual for a Christian website - is a valid and important one, and one often asked. But it is FAR from easy to answer. It MIGHT be easier if research is into how to end Polio or perhaps to find new planets or determine how much weight can a bridge bear.... but it's more difficult when we explore The Manhattan Project or President Reagan's "star wars" or even Darwin's theories.

Truth is a funny thing.... it often can be used for good or bad, and sometimes both. The problem, I would argue, is not with science or truth but with fallen, sinful people. In whose hands is this knowledge placed... what do those with this knowledge choose to DO with it? I might argue it's people who are unethical, not truth.

When does scientific research become unethical?

When it causes, or is likely to cause harm
When it is forced
When it is coerced
When it is used for the purposes of control
When it is "scientific" in name only, ie: relies on some unproven bias
When it is done to further a falsehood: ie: AZT for AIDS (a falsehood), "vaccines" for Covid-19 (a falsehood)
When it is used against those who cannot consent and/or are easily coerced: infants and children, the mentally disadvantaged

When it is funded for any of these reasons

The records show considerable efficacy for both AZT in AIDS and several vaccines for SARS-COVI-2

It's unethical if the subject of an experiment doesn't know what they're agreeing to, if they're misled about what's going to happen, or if it's done without them agreeing at all.

If fully informed and unforced consent is given, sky's the limit as long as the scientists only do what they said they would.
