How long will you wait 'on hold' before you hang up?

A lot depends on how important the call is to me.

If I'm trying to buy something I won't wait on hold for very long unless there's a very compelling reason to buy it from that company. If it's something I need then I'll wait for longer. I have been known to call the sales number if other lines are taking too long, figuring that if any line is answered in a hurry it will be sales.

I usually carry on with my life, work, or whatever I am doing on hold and have the phone on mute, speaker, or directly connected via Bluetooth until the call handler picks up. I would, however, say anything over 1 hour straight on hold, would prompt me to hang up and try another time at a less busy period.
