Does your church use prostrations in worship at all? Orthodoxy does during Lent, and other various days of the Church year.

During ordination those who are to be ordained prostrate themselves. I can't recall any other occasions but I am not confident that no others exist.

We must have some really pious babies in our church bc they're the only ones that I've seen do that in our sanctuary.

The first few times when visiting an Orthodox Church, small prostrations kinda had me scratching my head.

Prostrations in general are foreign to some. :p

It's a cool practice.

Do you guys do small prostrations throughout the year like some other Orthodox do?

But expressions of worship by prostrating ones self are usually an expression of gratitude and joy along with dancing singing and praising God .
at other times it may be done in the fear of God - we see both in scripture .

I notice that it depends. At my parish (Greek) it is done, but only by some and only during Lent, usually. At the Antiochian parish, it seems to be something everyone does in at least some services (I've never attended a Sunday Divine Liturgy there).

Prostrations in private prayers are pretty common, I'd say.

Ah maybe that's it. The Orthodox parish I've attended the most (that's where I was a catechumen) was Antiochian.

I noticed the Antiochians did it very often when venerating icons that were placed on podiums throughout the nave. But the Greek parishes I've attended had pews so most of the icons were hung on the walls. Making it more cumbersome to do small prostrations due to narrow allies?

How deep a prostration? Were they entirely flat against the floor?

I've seen 5 & 6 referred to as prostration.

In my parish 2 and occasionally 1 are quite common among the parishioners.

At ordinations of deacons and priests you may see this in Catholic Cathedrals.

I believe and ~Anastasia~ can correct me on this if im wrong but they only, as an assembly, do full prostrations at Pentecost. Of course individuals can do it as they feel lend. What I was referring to was small prostrations where after crossing themselves they reach toward the ground with their right hand.

That would be 3 in the diagram - if you observe carefully only the right hand is extended to the ground.

ah, if you're considering a bow to be a prostration then my church does that at the altar during communion before we kneel. We bow before the body/blood of the Lord.

I don't think 1 & 2 are called prostrations.
