It's still VERY early and LOTS can (and probably will) change but here are my early predictions:
Democrats:
Its' only happened once in all US history, in 1854 the Democrats did not nominate Franklin Pierce (arguably the worse president in history) for a second term. I think history is about to repeat itself, this time with Biden. Partly because his ratings are terrible and partly because Democrats think he can't beat anyone - not even Trump.
There will be several uber-liberal/communist/socialists running to replace him (maybe even including our friend Bernie), but they will split that vote and will seem too crazy for the Democrats in middle and southern America. One man will stand out.
I think Gavin Newsom will prevail as the nominee. We in the People's Republic of California have lived with him for 6 years now and have come to know him well. He has all the radical liberal credentials of even the most crazy Democrat - and unlike them, a record of actually DOING it (walking the walk, not just talking the talk). BUT he has one huge advantage over that crowd: He's likable. Very likable. Even charming. And he has this amazing ability to SOUND pragmatic, to SEEM unpolitical. Why, he comes off as downright nice. And some ladies think he's good looking. In debates, he stays calm and polite and SOUNDS very thoughtful and above the fray. Compared to the likes of those who will also run, he will SEEM very different, a breath of fresh air. Some liberal states will go for some angry, wild-eyed, female Democrat... but I think middle and southern American (and California) will put Newsom on top. And the Press will LOVE him, calling him the one to unify America and put an end to the divide of our country (In CA, the press has made him a saint).
As of this date, I predict the candidate will be Newsom.
Republicans:
This is a lot harder! No one is really running (full out, anyway) because Trump is the focus. The Democrats and their mouthpiece, the Press, has done their best to keep the focus on Trump (I honestly don't know why! This just FEEDS Trump and his supporters and keeps him in the picture). Will he run again? I say... yes. I don't think his ego and anger will permit otherwise. Will anyone have the guts to run against him for the nomination? My guess..... no, although I think DeSantis is likely to run IF Trump decides not to but I doubt Trump's ego will allow that.
Now, I'd LOVE Tim Scott to run... and get nominated, but I doubt it. I'd be happy if Pence would run, but I don't think he will. Right now, no one seems willing to go head-to-head with Trump.
As of this date, I predict the candidate will be Trump.
Don't be shocked if a third party candidate arises.... perhaps permanently splitting the Republican party (and insuring a Newsom win).
SOOOOO....
Trump vs. Newsom. It would be the third time in my life I've not voted the top of the ticket.
