Big question and really you'll need to start looking into Alchemy to satisfy yourself on the answers. Many products can be made via alchemy ranging from simple substances that facilitate healing and wellbeing to elixirs that bestow longevity and/or human evolution/ascendance.
I'm not an expert so I can't answer this fully I'm afraid. There are literally many 100s of alchemical texts, works, treatises and scripts spanning hundreds of years. Many people mistakenly think that Alchemy is just an ancient practice but there are plenty of people performing alchemy work in today's modern world. This may very well be behind some of the strange conflicts and world stuggles that we've seen as the warring powers who run the world fight to maintain their power bases and do anything they can to prevent the public having their power and knowledge.

Certainly can be dangerous in terms of the substances produced which can be highly acidic/corrosive and/or highly alkalinic.

As for opening doors, mankind has been doing this for 1000s of years. Discovery of fire for example. Dangerous stuff, seemed magical at the time I would think, even occultish. Now we know better. Continual discovery of Nature's powers is part of human evolution.

Yeah but we're approaching a point where extensive annihilation is really possible. Our intelligence is surpassing our wisdom to manage it.

The reality is that the source of power, for perfect health, very long life and much more, is currently in the wrong hands. Mankind suffers as a result. The great secret is now starting to spread outward to mankind and I guess therefore that those who have enjoyed the power for so long will indeed attempt to annihilate the rest of us before we can become like them and be a problem to them. I personally suspect the pandemic had something to do with this.
