I rarely step into someone’s dream to offer anything unless they specifically ask for help in understanding.

Last night however- I was “called up” from the minor leagues unexpectedly and I found myself in uniform as the lead-off-batter for the San Diego Padres. It was my very first appearance at a Major league game and I took my place in the batter’s box with almost no fanfare, as a complete unknown.

I swung on the very first pitch and for a second o stood there and watched the ball sail toward the wall at center field, thinking I had hit it out of the park— but then the centerfielder stop his backwards retreat and squared up under it for the catch.

But he muffed it and it squibbed off the top of his glove and rolled to the base of the wall. When I saw this I shook myself loose from my frozen stance and took off running for first base and for an instant rounded for second base, but held up as the fielder quickly picked up the ball and threw the cut off into second.

I was able to steal second on a pass ball that the catcher missed, and then advance to third base on a sacrifice fly. Then a base hit let me scamper to home plate and just like that I had scored on my first at bat— though by rights I would have been and should have been out, had the fielder made the routine catch. Back on the dugout, I sat on the bench and thought about how fortunate I was.

Of course, that's true-- and expected. Just as you wouldn't expect to know a lot of people you meet in the street or the market.

If I thought I was responsible for inventing characters and storylines with my own mind while I slept instead of my brain producing the dream movies, I would be quite worried about the content of some of them. How is it that me, while awake and conscious, can produce narrative stories while I sleep and dream beyond my own IQ ability is proof to me of God. My heart is beating without my control and the cells in my body are doing things beyond my ability to understand.

I muddled up my writing there before. I meant to say how can I produce such experiences as my dreams while asleep that my conscious mind while awake can not? Actually right now I am struggling a bit with expressing what I mean in writing because it's a bit difficult for me.

Design would be the obvious answer because there is no alternative to it.

I had a dream I was caring for a baby dog that was the size of a tadpole. I had it in my hand and protected it from things like other dogs and the elements. It got lost in my sweater for a few moments, but I found it again.

I think because the contents of your dreams are similar to dreams I had then.

I was one among four and we were standing on a green grassy tee box. My 3 brothers had already hit and all three had put it on the green, the closest one only about 15’ from the pin. I took my shot and with one bounce that surely would have continued right across the back of the green, the ball struck the pin with a loud crack and the ball dropped straight into the hole.

Ever have one of those dreams where things seem to randomly change up?

I was sitting with a small group of family members in a social setting-- maybe it was like a theater with small tables or bowling alley, with casual seating all facing forward and we were chatting. I had been introduced to my oldest son's new girlfriend and immediately liked her. She had a twinkle in her eye, reflective of the spark from within. A bright smile and sunny disposition. It felt like I knew her already and I asked if where I might know her from-- at this, she was a little coy and kind of shrugged my question off. I couldn't quite place it, but I was sure I had met this girl before.

When I got my son aside, I asked him quietly-- "Have I met her before? Where did she come from?" -He too, was kind of evasive with an answer and told me that she was one of the investigators at his work. (This is where the change-up happens). My oldest son became my youngest son, and our conversation context was my youngest son's job at the police department. I surmised then, that he had met her at work, since she was a department investigator, but I still had this nagging feeling of familiarity with her that I just couldn't place.

I hope that's not confusing because my oldest son was still my oldest son and didn't really become my youngest, rather I had substituted certain aspects of my youngest son's work situation and plugged those details into my oldest son's scenario with this new girl.

When my son and his girlfriend stepped away briefly, I asked others around if any of them knew or remembered this girl. They clued me in that my son and her graduated Police Academy together and then I slowly began to recall seeing her before. When the two of them came back to the group of us, I probed a little--- "So you were in the same Academy with Jordan?" -'Yep' she smiled.

"I'm trying to remember you.... Didn't I see you at the graduation party, and didn't you already have a boyfriend that was also an academy graduate?" -- she blushed and nodded, and I followed with-- "Uh oh.... what happened to 'that' boyfriend?" "Husband" -she whispered.

At this, I let it rest as my mind tumbled over the information and implications. I slowly began to piece things together in my head and I suddenly remembered this girl as the happy and bright partner of another Officer at the Grad party. Others filled me in privately-- how did this all transpire? I was told that I'd left the party early, before everything had happened, but everyone had been drinking and my son in particular had been drinking straight "Critter" (whatever that might be-- some kind of high test alcohol) and he turned into something not quite himself. --Well anyways, he ended up dancing with this wife of another man, and had stolen her from him, though she went quite willingly. Apparently there had been much drama and this husband of hers had come and threatened to one day "end" my son, if it was the last thing he ever did.

I helped some bunnies in last night's dream. That was only part of the dream though because the rest was boring.

I was in a large auditorium or stadium with many others in the tiered seating. At the end of the meeting when it was time to get up and leave I realized I was quite naked, as was everyone else it seems, though no one was taking notice of anyone else. It was more like-- "We're naked, we should probably put something on before leaving."

I took a king-sized sheet, that was much too large and wrapped it all around myself like a huge toga so I wouldn't be at all exposed and others seeing this did likewise, wrapping themselves in white sheets like robes and with this modesty we were all able to exit.
