First, we do not know when the zygote/embryo/ fetus is ensouled.
Since souls can't be killed, what difference does this make? Abortion doesn't terminate the soul.
The Commandment is "Thou shall not kill." The Hebrew word means to intentionally terminate an innocent human life. So...... I agree abortion would be okay IF one could prove (say from the DNA) that the unborn child is not homo sapiens but say an elephant or cockroach or bunny rabbit..... or if they could show that no abortion is intentional but purely accidental.... or if they could prove that the unborn has committed some capital crime.
Second, the only person qualified to make that decision is the mother.
Why? Do we say that only the rapist is qualified to make the decision to rape or not?
This is exactly the same as the pro-slavery argument that ONLY a white, male was qualified to decided whether to own a slave.
This is simply "the powerful have absolute control over the less so, even to the point of killing them." Hitler believed that. Power does not make right; indeed, civilization is based on the idea that the less powerful have innate rights.
The woman has absolute sovereignty over her body and her fertility.
No one debates that. The question is does she have absolute sovereignty over someone else's body? Hitler could do what he liked with his own body, does that mean he therefore could kill 6 million Jews?
IF you could prove that every unborn child is an absolute clone of the mother ... well, you've have a clone but such would still be a DIFFERENT body but it would still be a body, fully human. But no abortion has ever been done on a clone. Indeed, about half of the time, the victim is not even the same gender as the mother: the unborn child is no more the mother's body than I am (at the age of 39) my mother's body.
So, what can be done to reduce the incidence of abortion?
1. Repudiate the arguments you are making (taking pretty much lock, stock and barrel from the pro-slavery arguments)
2. Value life. All life MATTERS.
3. Hold that sex is an ADULT activity that requires RESPONSIBILITY. If adults are going to do this adult thing, then be adults about it rather than just bunny rabbits in heat.
factors driving abortion are ignorance
The mean age for an abortion is 23. So, you are telling me that most 23 year olds don't know that sex can result in a baby? Really? I have a hunch that well over 99% of them know that. Indeed, I suspect the 99% of 13 year olds know that. If there is ignorance, it's the view that the unborn is a cockroach until the last cell of the toe exits the birth canal and then - POOF - we have a little boy or girl. THAT'S ignorance. But in most US states, it's illegal to correct this and educate people on the unborn. But since most now get an ultrasound, they can SEE the little person with their own eyes. Sorry, I don't IGNORANCE is a key factor, except ignorance about the unborn child.
appropriate information about LGBTQ issues
What in the WORLD do LGBTQ issues have to do with murdering children? Do you think the LGBTO are more likely to have a low value on life, to be more likely to kill? Lost me....
