(The Guardian) The American Nurses Association, which represents over five million registered nurses, said in a statement that it was “deeply disturbed and saddened” by the killing of Alex Pretti, a US citizen and nurse, by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis. The statement, posted to social media, read: The American Nurses Association (ANA) is deeply disturbed and saddened to learn of the death of Alex Pretti, a registered nurse, in Minneapolis earlier today. We extend our condolences to Alex’s loved ones, colleagues, and the community at large.

ANA condemns violence in our communities. The seriousness of this incident and others demand transparency and accountability. ANA calls for a full, unencumbered investigation, and urges that findings be shared promptly and clearly so Alex’s loved ones and the public have answers.

One in four nurses already experience workplace violence. As incidents with federal law enforcement continue to rise across the country, we are deeply concerned for the safety of nurses, both on the job and in the communities they serve.

Nurses are advocates for the safety and well-being of their communities. They enter this profession to heal, to protect human life, and to show up for people in their most vulnerable moments. ANA remains committed to preventing violence in the workplace and in our communities, and to advancing meaningful protections that safeguard healthcare workers and the public.

A question: Had Alex Pretti simply gotten up in the morning and decided to stay home instead of setting out with a weapon and plenty of ammunition that it was illegal to be carrying without also carrying his ID and permit for it as required by law, not headed directly into a ICE operation with the intent of disrupting it to protect a wanted illegal alien, not both confronted and physically assaulted a law enforcement agent engaged in a lawful arrest, and not violently resisted arrest when he was being arrested for it, would he be alive today?

You can see what you want in this, but I see just another example of having return to you from the what you put into the world in the first place, something the Bible refers to as reaping what you have sown.

In one way or another we are all responsible for our own fate, receiving the rewards of our own actions.

Yeah, what's the ANA got to say about him going in locked and loaded into a confrontation with Law enforcement after the state has already ratcheted up the trouble.

Couple of problems there Frank...
(1) Minnesota is a concealed-carry state and Alex Pretti had the requisite permits to carry a firearm in public
(2) At no time did he brandish said firearm at or around the CBP/ICE agents that day
(3) At the time they fired at Pretti, he was already on the ground with several agents having swarmed him to the ground

In other words, (a) he wasn't a threat to the agents that morning and (b) once the one agent calls out "Gun!" the agents who'd swarmed him should've clamped down on his arms and legs; he wasn't a threat and if you remember the agent who did fire his weapon backed away rather than stay on top of him.

Bottom line: this was a bad shoot and but for qualified immunity w/regards to the Feds, someone should be facing charges here.

In Minnesota to carry a firearm legally you much have BOTH photo identification and your permit with you at all times while carrying a permitted firearm. Pretti deliberately had neither, and he also engaged the agents violently as he is on record as also done a week or so before.

So ask yourself why. Keep in mind that the anti ICE organizations that organize these violent demonstrations actually encourage their participants not to carry ID to make it harder to identify them (something no law abiding protester should have to worry about since if they were law abiding they would not need to worry about being asked for it or presenting it if asked to do so).

Whether he was a threat to the agents or not is not important since it is whether or not he would realistically be perceived as such under the circumstances. This is what will or will not be decided to justify or condemn the shooting.

This is no different than any other police shooting and for the larger part any questionable civilian self defense shooting as well.

Again I state that if Pretti had simply obeyed the law and been peaceful instead of aggressively confronting the agents he would be alive today.

The ICE agents admitted that if he would of been properly arrested for the earlier confrontation a week earlier where he commited obvious felonies, there wouldn't of been a second confrontation. Because of the bad conditions in the liberal states like Minnesota the agents probably didn't have resources to affect an arrest at that time.
