We pay a fortune in property taxes where I live and when my husband retires, we're thinking of moving to an entirely different state for lower taxes. Isn't that sad?

Same thing for us 63 year olds who are disabled. My house is paid off and property taxes are eating me up, it's ridiculous. My house has been in the family since 1955 and is a nice solid house.

My house was built in 1904 and with it being paid off for a long time I'd think that they would let me alone and let me live in my house without BS crap fees every years.

It's this sort of thing that convinces me that we're under more bondage than the Hebrews in Egypt ever was.

That would save us about $4,000 to $4,500 a year. But then my state doesn't have income tax and they would have to make up that loss somehow.

What state are you in?

You wont want to come to Ohio where I am and buy. This wasnt my idea to move to Ohio from Colorful Colorado, it was God that told me to move here. :(

And the property taxes are my biggest complaint!

Edited to add:
That doesn't sound good does it? Actually I have come full circle on moving to Ohio. I did not want to at first. It was never in the plan. But God told me to, through a brother. I tried to ignore it, but suddenly, every time I turn on a teaching video...they was talking about the story of Jonah, and I admit that scared me. So I did move here to Ohio...and I must say, He has blessed me very much since I obey, and have been here and He set me up! I was never on the list to get this house. This house wasnt even on my radar. and suddenly have a 4 BR house that is all paid off. So there are really more praise to God than complaints these days. I'm actually glad that the Lord took me out of Colorado because I am in a better place, even with high property taxes!
There. That sounds better.

Maybe they could cut their spending so that you can keep your money and your home.

This would be best addressed through Homestead Exemption to avoid giving huge tax advantages to the very very wealthy with almost none to the lowest category of homeowner.

It also creates another disparity of leaving those older people who don't own their property an have to rent or lease apartments and housing since the owners of those properties still pay property taxes on them and that is included in the rental costs the occupants have to pay.

When considering a new law of any kind, the majority of the discussion should center on how it will be abused and who the winners and losers will be when it is (consider that this has proven true of even the Bill of Rights).

I'm in Pennsylvania. It's awful because everything seems to get taxed... state, county, township, school tax, property tax and even our gas is 30 cents higher due to a tax. We drive to Maryland to get gas.
