Missing church to sleep in

If you were planning to go to church, but decided to not go and sleep in, what are your thoughts on it? Some I know feel bad cause they planned to go, but they didn’t sleep well, or needed more sleep.

Have done it but not often and yes I feel bad if I do. I usually will make myself go even if tired and usually I feel good about it

I think if your body truly needed the rest then don't put so much guilt on yourself for missing. You can go online and read the readings for the day and sometimes even listen to your pastor's sermons when he puts them online. Sing a hymn or two and then look forward to taking communion when you return.

I think the question that needs to be anwered first, is why we go to church. I go because that is where I receive the forgiveness of my sins through the word properly preached and taught and the Sacraments properly administered. I'm there to receive from God, His gifts. If you're going for reasons that focus on you, stay home and sleep in. You can always watch a sermon, sing along and pray with others online or on TV.

There are times I skip church because the simple reality is I can't be bothered with it. That seldom happens more than once or twice a year. Occasionally I make a specific decision to spend time in the woods on a Sunday morning instead of going to church - although that is also not a regular occurrence there are times I just feel I need that time for myself rather than for the group that is collectively called "church".

I figure I can spend time with God in the woods just as easily as I can spend time with God in a church building. It's not something I'd want to do too often as there clearly is value in meeting and enjoying fellowship and communal worship with other Christians, but every once in a while I believe my walk is better served by spending that time alone with God in the woods.

Our services aren't until 10:30 so it's vanishingly rare to have had such a bad night's sleep that I can't make them. But ultimately it's not as if me skipping out on church every now and then is going to cause problems so there's really no point feeling guilty about it.

Considering I am a poor sleeper I figure sleeping in is how God chose to bless me that day.

If you choose the right church, you can both attend and get a little extra sleep in at the service.

considering that I generally get up fairly early and the service I go to doesn't start until 11:15 am the sleeping in excuse doesn't seem like it would even be possible for me. They also have a 8:45 am service which is identical to the 11:15 am one so I could actually go to that one if I wished to.

Evening services on Sunday nights at 6pm, Wednesday night services at 6pm.....I don't have to worry about sleeping in. *adds deadpan* Of course, I don't get a lot of sleep most nights but still....

I used to attend evening services at my former church sometimes and it was nice. Of course that church also had 2 services on Sunday morning so it was hard to miss the 2nd one if you slept in too late and missed the first.

I remember working long enough hours paired with a long enough commute that a church service at 1030 on Sunday morning was something I'd usually miss because it was about the only time I had to rest. I used to go to the evening service instead.
