All sorts of things get ripped out of context.

I don't know how commonplace it is but one I came across was "you will declare a thing and it will be established for you" (Job 22:28), used as justification to declare all sorts of things and expect them to happen. Job 22:28 does say exactly that but, taken in its proper context, doesn't mean what those people say it means.

Many lives have been ruined by this verse. I'd say it's the cornerstone of the prosperity gospel. It's just a greeting. Nothing more, nothing less.
