Do you prefer to see a male or female family practitioner and why?
I don't care as long as they know what they are doing.
The last three of my primary doctors have been women. Before seeing the first one I was a little hesitant as my natural thinking was that I'd prefer a male doctor, but a male friend of mine highly recommended her so I thought I'd see how I got on with her, and really liked her. Then she retired so I needed a new doctor. The system automatically assigned me another doctor (another female doctor) but long before I saw the new doctor I met my wife's new doctor and really liked her approach, so transferred to her. Then she left the area and suggested an incoming doctor who she thought we would like so we signed up with her, and so far we both really like her as well.
So far I haven't needed to discuss any particularly male issues with her but her approach is always professional such that I don't think I'd have a problem if/when that sort of thing arises. If it gets awkward maybe I'll look to talk to a male doctor but at the end of the day it's not like a doctor of either gender hasn't come across a variety of ailments in a variety of bodies so it's not as if they're seeing or discussing something they've never come across before.
