In Genesis 19:26 it says that Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt when she looked back at Sodom and Gomorrah when the Lord destroyed these cities. Jesus seemed to indicate in Luke 17:28-32 Jesus indicated that this was an actual historical event and not just an analogy. I am wondering why Lot's wife was turned to a pillar of salt? What is the significance of that?
It seems that since Lot was sitting at the city gate when the angels arrived that he was a person of some prominence in the city by this time. Maybe he did not wish to give up his place of importance in the city? I find the fact that he was willing to turn his daughters over to the crowd to abuse them to be appalling Gen 19:8

Here's the significance:

15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

See in v17: look not behind thee

and:

lest thou be consumed.

Don't forget all his family members in town that didn't heed the warning and were destroyed.

Yes, they thought Lot was joking and didn't listen to him and were destroyed Genesis 19:14. I wonder what was so great that Lot risked looking back?

Lot's wife disobeyed God, and I remember thinking that I'd probably do the exact same thing of looking back out of curiosity if I were in that position. When God gives an order, He means it, like when He told people not to touch the Ark...and look what happened to the guy that did.

As for Lot's daughters, what I was told was that the angels were holy and having them be defiled by the people was far worse than his daughters. Not that it was anything I could do; giving someone my daughter!!

They were men wanting to have sex with men. They turned down the girls and kept going after the guests. For another example, Look at Judges 19:

16 And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

17 And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

18 And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the Lord; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

19 Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

20 And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

21 So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

22 Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

23 And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

24 Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

25 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

26 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.

27 And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

28 And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

29 And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

No angels in this story to blind the evil doers.

That's a different story from Genesis.

Not to forget Moses and his disobedience in striking the rock, cost him not stepping a foot in the promised land, what a bummer that must have been after 40 years in the dessert?

I've always felt so bad for Moses. Thankfully his sins were forgiven by Christ and he can be with God eternally.

Every historical event in the Bible is an actual event; they are all true! Lot seems to be sitting at the city gate to invite travelers into his house in order to protect them from the gay predators in Sodom.

Yes, those two (Genesis and Judges) are not referring to the same instance.
Sorry, didn't mean to cause confusion.

Judges 19

This story took place quite a while after Lot. Maybe more than 1000 years. After Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, the 400 years in Egypt, Moses and Levi, Joshua, The time of the Judges including Othniel, Ehud, Barak and Deborah, Gideon, Abimelech, Tola, Jair, Jephthah, Ibzan, Elon, Abdon, and Samson. It happened in Judges 19, before the books of Ruth and Samuel.

It's a story concerning the near destruction of one of Isreal's tribes (Benjamin) because of the events while staying in Gibeah to a Levite traveler from Ephraim. The Levite traveler elects to stay in the town square for the evening till a villager offers him lodging. Then similar events to Lott's story sequence happen, with the exception of Angelic intervention, during an attack by wicked locals.

Well, once you give your life to Christ we are supposed to put our hand to the plow and not look back....to be about our Fathers Business.

Luke 9:
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God..../KJV

And...Lot's Wife looked back. Prolly to her back up plan that she kept friend zoned in the city. Women are like that. God said no...

They couldn't look back and see that she was turned into a pillar of salt either.
