My wife and I walked into a restaurant a while back, heard several screaming children and didn't even get as far as the desk to get seated before we walked right out again.

...Which is the best thing to do.

It doesn't particularly upset anybody because there could be a number of reasons for a patron to turn back quickly, it doesn't cause the management to go out of its way for your benefit, and you don't have to explain anything.
