Tulsi Gabbard, a former congresswoman and candidate for the Democratic nomination for President, announced this week that she's leaving the Democratic Party. Her reasons were given in the following statement:

"I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, [are] dragging us ever closer to nuclear war."

By comparison, Liz Cheney, who was kicked out of the Republican Party in Wyoming, continues to say she is a Republican, even while endorsing Democratic candidates.

We live in politically turbulent times. Which of the above models do you think will gain the most traction--moderate Democrats feeling forced to leave their political party because it's been taken over by radicals, or anti-Trump Republicans determined to defeat the GOP because of that one issue?

I hope more and more people see what's happening today and perhaps a new party can form out of this?

Oooh, a new party. I hadn't anticipated that answer.

It does seem that the Democrats are growing ever-more divided between the ultra-progressives and the more sensible moderate left wingers, while the Republicans are growing ever-more divided between the hard right wingnuts and the more sensible moderate right wingers.

It would be nice to let the more extreme factions on both sides go away and foam at the mouth in a dark corner somewhere while the more sensible moderates on both sides looked to find compromise solutions that did more than pander to extremes.
