For all the "yes" folks, what makes it a sandwich? It is in a bun, true, but not a traditional sandwich bun. Besides, isn't it more of a 'carrier' so the slop doesn't get all over you? Also, put enough condiments and toppings on the "sandwich" and the bun is essentially useless. Observe:

I like my "hot dog SANDWICH" with a brat (hopefully grilled on the barbie) and EITHER with just a bit of spicy mustard OR with sourkraut (and a beer). No onions because I like to kiss the girls (well, one now).

Hmmm... no onions, but kraut is okay. Interesting. I agree with spicy mustard, too. It's a must.

I recall one time when I was a kid, we didn't have hot dog buns, so they were duly cut in half, quartered, and placed in between bread. That had the makings of everything just not right about a "hot dog". Does it, therefore, not make it a sandwich? My brother and I thought so.

Hotdog Buns ~ The difference between a soft bun and a loaf of bread is in the use of milk as it's main wet ingredient. Milk keeps the bun fairly moist so the product is spongy and soft.
