At my first home, I was told by a neighbor that the lady across the street spied on us with binoculars. We all had huge picture windows and after I was told, I caught the lady doing it.

My question is...what would you have done in that situation besides keep curtains closed?

Depending on local legislation either called the police or maybe mount a telescope on a tripod looking at where she watches you from. Either that or put something in the window that would bother her so she didn't watch any more.

The devious side of me is tempted to say that maybe I'd do something lewd to entertain her. Like strip down naked, put on a mask and touch myself. Then bring over some homemade cream filled donuts.

Honestly, I don't know though. Probably get better drapes for the windows.

Put up curtains and blinds; keep them closed.

Or, if you want light coming in through the windows but not the gaze of a snoopy neighbor, you can get a film one side of which reflects like a mirror, so the person on that side can’t see through it. This stuff clings to window electrostatically — you just cut it to fit and lay it on the glass.

I would just wave hello. I would probably also think they must really be bored if they are spying on me

We get our neighbor bi-spying a lot. My wife goes crazy and pulls down the shades.
(my thoughts?)..Nothing a laser light won't solve.

Better check your State and Federal laws on using a laser light for that. You might find yourself in jail and paying medical fees.

While practicing tai chi in the park, I executed a swift segment of the form with graceful movements. Suddenly, I observed a round-shaped lens emitting a bright glare, similar to the way a light shines on a cat's eyes. This glare is indicative of being spied on, which is why I refrain from practicing with a telescope to avoid noticeable glares. Upon noticing the police officer's gaze, I deliberately slowed down to a snail's pace while maintaining the same form. The officer, evidently bored by my reduced speed, eventually drove away. If he did capture it on film, he would confirm that it precisely mirrored the movement initiated by the founder of Yang-style tai chi, a fact that would make me proud.

I'm too much of a pragmatist to worry about jail and medical fees. If it works I go for it :)

It would be interesting to see the neighbor trying to make a claim in court for the injuries they claim to have received while spying on someone where a reasonable expectation of privacy existed.

It would be more interesting seeing you prove they were spying just because they were looking at you from inside their home. They can look anywhere they want from their home, all day long.

But I guarantee you, charges could and probably would be filed against you, if you shot a laser beam at them. And would most likely hold up.

If you're like Prism, who doesn't care about being arrested, jail time, setting a bond, setting a court date, lawyer fee, possible guilty verdict, fine, possible medical bill to pay, and then maybe more jail time if found guilty, then go ahead. Myself, it's not worth it.

Many places have rules about voyeurism in areas where there's a reasonable expectation of privacy. So you can take video footage of someone in a public place but taking video of someone in their bedroom without their consent crosses legal lines in many places.

If you fired a laser beam at them you could easily claim you fumbled it while putting it away. Consumer grade lasers aren't powerful enough to do any damage unless you look at them for any length of time, so the most obvious response to getting a laser flashed in your eyes is to flinch.

Now you 'add' video into the discussion which wasn't in the opening post.

It's not 'voyeurism' for a person to watch you in their own home. And, if you take video footage of your neighbor in their own home, you are the one guilty of spying on your neighbor.

Just fire a laser beam at your neighbor and see how it goes. You will get to spend the time and pay for your justice.

Maybe make a huge sign in big black letters that says “Why are you spying on me with binoculars?” And put it in the window.

Back in my 20s I wouldn't have been bold enough to do that, but now that I'm in my 50s, that's absolutely something I'd consider!

That's right, being retired, it all may be worth nailing a snooping neighbor. LOL
