A pup was run over.
I was on my way to get groceries and left my driveway just in time to see a car run over it across the street. Front tires, dog rolled several times and tried to run away, but was hit again - back tire ran right over it and stopped while still part on the dog. The driver had to pull a little forward to get off of it.
We all ran towards the dog, and the owner went to pick it up. The pup thought it was still under attack, so he bit the owner and drew blood. Lots of blood. We wrapped the dog up in a little blanket the other driver had in her trunk, and I drove them to the animal hospital around the corner. But the pup died on the way there. I offered because the driver that hit the pup had a child in the car and I did not want to traumatize the child more than what had just happened.
This poor guy had to go home and tell his pregnant wife that their pup was dead. My heart just aches for them, and after I got groceries, I came straight home and snuggled with my dog.
If you own a pet, please don't let them run free. Make sure they are on a leash outside. Not only will a leash prevent heartbreak like this, but it will prevent people like me having this image in my mind for probably a long time... I'm so sad for those people...
