I hate ribbons! No not the little silk bits of shiny cloth that folk use for bookmarks and stuff, I mean the horrible Microsoft ribbons in MS Office. It's ugly, it's obscure, it's slow to find what you need, it sucks in general. What was wrong with the drop-down menus that Office used to have and that OpenOffice and LibreOffice still have? Whoever invented the ribbons ought to be sued!

Oh I can never find anything there.
Luckily the program at work I use most is like the first. I dont use office much. If I type an email sometimes they get it with 2 different letter types. Too much fuzz to find that all out.

I hated the ribbons at first until I used Microsoft products daily at work. Then I found that having those ribbons displayed made my work go faster (and I'm really fast in the first place!). Now that I don't have that version of Microsoft anymore I miss my ribbons and can't figure out how to do the things I used to do.

For me it is the opposite. I used Office 2000 for years at work and it had drop-down menus with no ribbons. Now at home I have office 2013 on my desktop and LibreOffice on my laptop and LibreOffice is so much easier for me to use because I am familiar with the drop-down menus. Office 2013 is kind of unfamiliar and weird and things are hidden in ribbons that I don't expect and even simple things like "save as" are hidden under "file" which you need to click and when you do click it the entire document is hidden under a HUGE file menu. The whole thing looks contrived and silly I reckon. The drop-down menus in LibreOffice are easier to navigate and less space demanding so even on a small screen - like my ancient netbook that's used for an IRC bot and occasional web browsing - you can see where you're going with them but with ribbons a small screen gets swamped with the thick ribbon so you end up seeking only 10 or so lines of your documents! It is horrible.

I only remember the cartoon paper clip from Microsoft Office...he would always get in the way and be annoying. I would be like "Yo Mr. Paper clip, nobody asked you for nothin', so scram dude!" :p

I hated the paper clip, especially when it decided to pop up in the middle of something.

"It looks like you're writing a letter, do you need help?"... "No, I am quite capable of writing a letter without an animated cartoon, thanks very much"

I can't say I like the new ribbons either. The old style toolbars worked, allowed easy customisation, and didn't take up big chunks of the screen on lower resolution displays. The ribbons are fine if you're working in 1920x1080 or higher but if you're on a netbook that's maybe 800x520 or some such it makes it much harder to use.

Drop-down menus are more intuitive if you've used a computer before.
