There are many reasons why I hate to go grocery shopping...I'm bashful and hate when people look at me. Or talk to me...like the guys who are there to restock the shelves. I'm nice to them but inside I'm like, "Nooo, don't talk to me."

Then there are the people who leave their cart in the middle of the aisle. Move it.

Today the checkout lady asked if she could open up one of the items because the scanner wasn't reading it. I told her no. Then I waited for her to remember she could key in the number.

If Peapod weren't so expensive and my husband wasn't so cheap I'd use it so I could avoid going to the store.

I haven't been grocery shopping in the US for many years now, but I honestly think you are the first person I've met that has such an issue with it *chuckle*.

No one gawks at me. I must be just average looking or something. No shelve stock persons try to chat me up, and there's usually never more than 1 in an aisle at any one time.

Sometimes the check out chic initiates conversation, which is flattering or scary, depending on the check out chic, lol.

Most people are not so rude to leave their carts in the middle of the aisle - although it occasionally happens.

I don't buy many processed foods, and tend to buy larger amounts of basic items: rice, potatoes, flour etc - so usually I just need a carry basket for a few things instead of a large cart unless I need to replace one of the bulk items.

Hey Lam - got to growing stuff yet?

Here's your incentive! Grow more of the food you eat = less trips to the supermarket + more incentive to be a better cook + you control what's in your food + savings. It's a win, win, win, win, win! You don't have to start big - but you do have to start! All I'm growing atm are potatoes and turnips and garlic - but it's more than last year, and come summer I'll introduce some more produce.

We have a HUGE garden space out back but I need to get supplies to keep out the country animals...deer, ground hogs, raccoons, etc. I am thinking of actually leaving part of it open to give them some stuff since I like seeing them in the back field and it will keep them around ;) My problem is my seasonal allergies. I don't know how I can be outside to work in a garden and survive? LOL Not until someone can come torch the neighbor's two cottonwood trees!

When we first moved out to where we live now my husband was shocked that a stocker actually started up a conversation with him just so he could come up to me and touch my arm. It was so creepy!

The biggest part of garden work is getting it started and then planting. After that it's just maintenance, weeding and watering until harvest time. If you use raised garden beds, you eliminate some of the pest and weed issues. Using things like broken up eggshells around your plants will further hinder certain critters like snails/slugs.

I have numerous potato plants growing in my backyard in the ground with some turnips. In another area I have further potato plants and garlic growing in pots. It's been wet this winter so I really haven't had to water much - but watering and weeding really isn't labor intensive - ya just have to keep on top of it. For a small garden, you might be looking at 10-15 minutes a day. If you've set it up to avoid weeds and do auto watering - the time is nada.

I shop online and either pick up my shopping or have it delivered. It's not expensive here. $4 for delivery $0 for pick up.

One good thing I like about the place I shop is that when I go early enough in the morning I can get the reduced meats! I am thrilled when I find filet mignon for $6-7 a package (usually it's like $12-18 for that size) and it feeds both of us :)

https://www.peapod.com/

Looks like it is an online-shopping & delivery web site.

Come shop in Holland where everyone leaves you alone and noone looks at you. If you want help you have to ask a guy who's filling up. Although.. once when I was one of the first in the morning, someone said hi.

Yes but only in the expensive grocery stores and it costs 5 euro.

It might be cheaper than all the chocolates and sweets and Donald ducks you end up buying with the children

Then leave them at home. If that can't be done - destroy the television. 90% of what they have been taught to want has come from that source anyway - through product placement and advertising.

I don't even have a tv. Oh I have one now from my sister for the wii but you can't watch tv on it. They want Donald Ducks. I ordered a bunch on ebay now second hand. It's just because they have vacation. Normally I shop if they're in school. Now I understand why my parents always went grocery shopping alone and never took us with em lol.
