How much of a sticker are you at church for things being done the same way? As in, at Christmas you might have poinsettias brought in only for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services, but not before?

Or during Lent you don't sing the Alleluias.

These things aren't mandatory and scripture doesn't demand that they happen or don't, but how much do you feel things at your church should be done?

I care about things that aren't theologically sound - I don't think they have a place in a church service at all.

Beyond that I really couldn't care less about when (or whether) poinsettas are brought in, what order things happen, whether people sit or stand when singing etc. If Scripture is silent on something it probably isn't important.

What if someone wants to sing a Christmas song at a different time of year?

Sometimes ritual serves as an anchor to keep us from drifting.

I'm not sure why they'd want to but I don't see any particular reason why they shouldn't. I don't think I'd have any interest in fighting it.

As long as it keeps the focus on Jesus, yes, I agree it can be helpful.
