Thank you for that verse reminder but do you see where it says except what is human, I have looked at a different version of my bible and it says except what is common to mankind. Does that not mean that we still fall under temptation of those things common to mankind or is my mind too feeble to comprehend?
"Temptation should not take hold of you, except what is human. For God is faithful, and he will not permit you to be tempted beyond your ability. Instead, he will effect his Providence, even during temptation, so that you may be able to bear it."
I think it encourages us to struggle against the all to human temptations that we face every day - things like telling a lie for convenience sake, wanting to escape punishment or pain so hiding our light so we can go unnoticed, being like saint Peter when he denied the Lord for the sake of his safety and so forth - these things have a way of chipping away at our faith until it is nothing but a small pile of brokenness at our feet and about which we feel shame. The promise of God and the Providence he supplies adds water (of life) to the dusty pile of broken faith and that makes it back into sturdy cement (a rock once broken but reconstituted by grace). In brief saint Paul wanted to reassure the Corinthian congregation that God will always rebuild faith as long as there is faith to rebuild. NO Christian ever need feel abandoned and alone because God promises to always be there to make strong and beautiful the broken faith we have as our shame - as saint Paul said of himself when I am weak I am strong (2Cor 12:10). That is the hope we have when we face temptations. We struggle to be holy and when we fail God somehow will pick us up and make us His children again.
