Thank you for that verse reminder but do you see where it says except what is human, I have looked at a different version of my bible and it says except what is common to mankind. Does that not mean that we still fall under temptation of those things common to mankind or is my mind too feeble to comprehend?

"Temptation should not take hold of you, except what is human. For God is faithful, and he will not permit you to be tempted beyond your ability. Instead, he will effect his Providence, even during temptation, so that you may be able to bear it."

I think it encourages us to struggle against the all to human temptations that we face every day - things like telling a lie for convenience sake, wanting to escape punishment or pain so hiding our light so we can go unnoticed, being like saint Peter when he denied the Lord for the sake of his safety and so forth - these things have a way of chipping away at our faith until it is nothing but a small pile of brokenness at our feet and about which we feel shame. The promise of God and the Providence he supplies adds water (of life) to the dusty pile of broken faith and that makes it back into sturdy cement (a rock once broken but reconstituted by grace). In brief saint Paul wanted to reassure the Corinthian congregation that God will always rebuild faith as long as there is faith to rebuild. NO Christian ever need feel abandoned and alone because God promises to always be there to make strong and beautiful the broken faith we have as our shame - as saint Paul said of himself when I am weak I am strong (2Cor 12:10). That is the hope we have when we face temptations. We struggle to be holy and when we fail God somehow will pick us up and make us His children again.

I'm somewhat stumped and have been for years but have always been embarrassed to ask so this seems like a reasonable place to do it. When I pray for someone to be healed I know it isn't my praying that heals because I give thanks to God for his healing powers to work in the ill gotten but how does fasting work with healing. It simply cannot be the cause of healing and I cannot grasp why fasting could be required at all for God to have to heal. Please share how this works?

who taught you this ?
where does it teach that in scripture

fasting is about getting "you " (your flesh nature and will ) out of the way so you can live and walk by the Spirit of God . On the topic of healing ,the lord Jesus commands us to "heal the sick" he never tells us to ask god to do it and we see zero example of him ever asking the father to do it He was here the Holy spirit was in him so he healed them . we are here ,the holy spirit is in (some of)us. so we do it in his name as he told us to . we learn .

Have you raised the dead? That's part of that verse in Matthew. Heal the sick, raise the dead, etc..

Have you read that part of my post that says "we learn" ? How many accounts are recorded of the 12 disciples raising the dead? What do you think ?that if you can point out one aspect some one else has not done it will excuse you from not even attempting to become like the master. A disciple is a student.a student learns. Christ's students become his students by laying down their lives to follow him obediently in order to become like he is. This is the whole point of salvation.to be taken from what we had become in sin and be transformed back into perfection.

I am under the impression that you do not believe in intercessory prayer which is something that is urged upon us in the bible, unless you also do not believe that the Holy Bible is inspired by God? Jesus is not recorded as saying to pray for the sick, that is true, but does that mean Jesus did not want us to love our neighbor so much that we would not pray for him?

we should pray without ceasing but i find many so called intercessory church clubs do like to meet and be very spiritual sounding , while their neighbors are suffering in need of healing and salvation .
true intercession is of the holy Spirit not of the flesh . and true entwining with god(religion)is to do his will , us in him by faith and he in us doing his will Through us . when truly intercede for the lost -we GO to them and heal their sick drive out devils and preach the good news of Jesus to them .

because again , those who hear his words (his simple instructions ) but do not go and do them , deceive themselves.

You do seem to be very good at assuming people aren't going into the world. Just because someone spends a couple of hours a week in prayer meetings doesn't mean that's all they do. Can't someone attend prayer meetings while also loving their neighbour the way Christ told us to?

I do not know what you mean by intercessory church clubs and it sounds as if you have had bad experiences at the churches that you have attended but that is only your reaction and not God's reaction who loves us all and gives us great gifts so that we can love each other.

of course they can . in what way do you do this ? since it is folly to speak of all others when we have our own lives from which testify and from which the only true testimony can come ,for second hand testimony is hearsay unless we were present and saw it or partook i it . i read of the testimonies in scripture . but it is when i believed and acted upon it ,applying it , that i then experienced the power of it and that experience became my own testimony .

the generalization i used describes those who do everything BUT actually speak the gospel to others telling them of what Jesus has done for them nd how to have what he has accomplished credited their their own life and account . they have meetings they have coffee and cake they meet and pray for the lost .but never actually GO (it is a generalization, of course it is not always the case )
and then when they Do go they go with a partial gospel message usually the most comfortable part for people to hear . and the most comfortable part for the to share , but i so doing they love themselves making everything as comfortable for them selves so they need not endure the shame of the cross. . And so i generalized , saying they sit in their intercession clubs ,patting themselves on the back for being oh so spiritual ,while obeying not the great commission , but their own carnal desire to appease their conscience . it is again a generational to make a point .

such generalization goad only that which is there to be goaded .

Do you see anything wrong with this picture? On the one hand you say it's folly to speak of others, but then you make sweeping assumptions about others and defend it with little more than a backhanded comment that it will only offend those who deserve to be offended. Why would you even assume that people who attend church for a couple of hours on Sunday and a prayer meeting for an hour on Wednesday somehow fail to honor God for the other 165 hours of the week? Maybe part of the prayer meeting was to pray for support for those (which, you know, might even include some present) going door-to-door spreading the gospel. Maybe people who have disabilities such that going door-to-door is difficult to impossible (you know, the ones that aren't healed despite numerous prayers) and who meet to support each other in prayer and maybe even reach out to others with disabilities who aren't Christians. Maybe, as groups like Street Pastors do, they have some people going out into the streets and other people sitting in one of those useless meeting rooms praying for those who are out on the streets at that very time. I've known a few Street Pastors in my time and not a single one of them thinks the people who "sit in their intercession club" (as you so eloquently put it) are doing any less of God's work. If anything many Street Pastors don't particularly like being out on the streets in the small hours of the morning unless there are people sitting around in the intercession club praying for them as they do it.

Even Jesus took time out of his schedule to pray. Perhaps he should have been chastised for sitting around praying when he could have been out ministering. If Jesus took time out to pray it's a pretty bold thought to figure that if we come together to pray we're just sitting around doing nothing useful. Do you think that petitioning the King of Kings, the creator of heaven and earth, is a waste of time?

The way you post anyone would think that it was a total waste of time attending prayer meetings, but Jesus said something about when two or three were gathered in his name. But hey, if you throw the word "carnal" around enough times maybe people might think you have a spiritual point to make, which is ironic given your remarks about people who try and appear spiritual.

Sir, I personally feel that to goad over generalizations is not in the best Christian spirit.

That seems to be the case for a lot of high and mightys who only want for people to do what they do instead of what the holy spirit tells them to do. There ain't anything wrong with prayer circles having social time and behaving like normal people who care for each other and wanting to fellowship so I don't get why the goading needs to happen unless it's pure out jealousy.

you missed the word "ALL" which makes what i said different to how you presented it .
and jesus certainly said "where 2 or 3 are gathered "in his name "
but how can they gather in HIS name when they dont actually go and do HIS will .if that be the case whose name are they really gathered in ?

no one even suggested its not ok to have prayer circles .what we must always do however is ensure it is for the right motive . and its ok to challenge and goad . I observe in my own life that i only get goaded when the topic is of one that is lacking in my life . its also called conviction . and when one responds to conviction by defending their status Quo they demonstrate a desire to refuse to be further transformed into the image of Christ - his ver will and goal for us all .
sanctification is an ongoing work of the holy Spirit , but it happens as fast as we respond obediently to the Holy Spirit and happens not at all when we Quench him .

i find it of interest when people attack "me" in light of any given topic .there is nothing to be gained in doing so .yet some do so .

Jesus said some very pointed things in regard to being his disciples. some very uncomfortable things . about taking up ones cross about forsaking the world about giving up house land family to follow him and do his will ,he even says unless we do, we "cannot " be his disciple . these words are hard to hear and should goad us all onwards to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus . not make us defend the status quo .
the pharisees defended the status quo vehemently and they ended up crucifying him.
we must hold up the deepest intent of our hearts to the light of the truth of the lord Jesus ALWAYS that our works(actions and motives ) may be exposed whether they are of god or not .
ALWAYS we should be doing so uninhibitedly . for it is only those who do not want their hearts exposed that refuse to come to that all exposing light .and they are that way because they love darkness

I am reading that you feel people are attacking you even though you have written on this forum site that you came here to goad others so why would it even bother you at all if they're responding to your goading? Your actions have spoken what's in your heart if you feel that goading is an acceptable way to have a discussion with fellow Christians but I do not agree that fellowship will come about, not true fellowship, because of goading so your direction should change into one of love and respect for other Christians and maybe you won't feel so attacked? You speak of actions and your actions are questionable.

Fellowship is not just having everyone agree with you.
And to goad others in the context of righteousness is a good thing.
;) carefull how you represent others words.

Just out of curiosity, was the OP answered?
I don't want to read all 8 pages if the topic is covered and moved on to the "you said", "no I didn't" phase.
