The governor of Virginia ordered a specific statue of General Robert E. Lee must be removed, in light of the death of George Floyd. Lee once owned slaves.

What about George Washington? He owned far more slaves than Lee did. What about General Grant, he also once owned slaves. SEVERAL presidents owned slaves. What do we do with the name of our nation's capitol city? That State in the northwest corner of our country? The fellow on the one dollar bill? What do we do with all the cities, streets and schools named for Americans who owned slaves or who didn't welcome women voting or against public unions or didn't fight to get the vote to Indians or Asians or women or ......... ?

Politics by pure symbolism..... how to APPEAR like you give a rip but actually DO nothing. People eat it up. They just eat it up.

I would actually agree with the idea of taking down the Robert E. Lee statue. I think it is time to let go of the past with all of the divisive symbolism and move forward. But, that is only one of several statutes in Richmond and Henrico county area and they all need to be moved. Having said that, that won't get rid of the battlefields in the area or the building that they used as a confederate white house that sits in Richmond.
