The Lord uses Music a lot. And not all of His songs are hymns, lol.
Why? Well because Jesus did not come to save the righteous but sinners, remember?! And in some of those sinner houses, they wont play hymns! They'll break that CD and toss it out the front door!
But those same sinners wouldn't think twice about playing, Jesus is Just Alright With Me by the Doobie Brothers, a rock and roll song!! That song is so good it gets replayed and replayed. Spirit in the Sky, by Norman Greenbaum (Love it!)
This is how Jesus comes in the back door of sinner environments to plant seeds within the hearts of those therein. Music is powerful and people groove to it and sing along with it...they, take it into their hearts in that way.
They say "Jesus is just Alright" in that song 19 times! (IIRC). If they sang along with it yesterday it planted a seed. Today they sing along again perhaps...the seed grows! And then when their sinful lives get them into a bad situation, Jesus whispers in their ear, you Know I'm hear and want to help you...and sometimes it is a dire situation so they will reach out to God....
That's one more way that Jesus wins souls and takes them for His own. Because when it's dire and you reach out to God, and He comes through for you and He will because (That's what He does!!!)
I know these things because, been there done that, got the T-Shirt! I seen the elephant. And here I am!
I think some bands are what I have coined, Closet Christians. Most of their music is plain good secular rock except their lyrics drift to descriptions of the Lord God in their songs in roundabout ways. I think Moody Blues was like that. I think their song "For My Lady" might be about the Holy Spirit. It just, does sound like it. Who knows.
And nowadays the young heavy rock bands coming out in Jesus Name are pretty darn cool most of them. Skillet Band. I like them. They have great Testimonies on youtube. So does Korn Band member Brian Welch. Dave Mustaine got saved too! Man, he has great testimonies, I like Dave. He's been through a lot.
