Have you met (or maybe been near) someone famous?

I have walked past Mike Ditka (former Bear's football coach) back in the late 80s on the streets of Chicago as he was entering the Tribune Building.

Again in Chicago I was in line with a co-worker at Gold Coast hot dogs and my friend told me that John Malkovich was right behind me. I had no idea who he was! LOL

I saw the Queen years ago.

I nearly bumped into David Cameron, the UK Prime Minister, when walking along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. This guy came jogging around the corner flanked by two policemen and it was only after he passed that I realised who he was.

I met a few politicians - I met Ed Davey (the Energy Minister until a couple of months back) and also Sir Edward Heath who was Prime Minister before Margaret Thatcher.

I've seen a few TV personalities on the streets of London going about their business. Usually I'm not that interested in the personalities so just leave them be. I remember seeing Nigel Planer (who played Neil in The Young Ones) walking down the road, Alan Davies (from Jonathan Creek) on his cellphone outside the pub where I was having a beer, and my wife assures me that some kid or other from one of the endless identikit boy bands walked past us in town one afternoon.

I used to go to a club years ago in soho, where Rod Stewart used to sing.. ..also Manfred Mann's group.

Not really..I did go to an Eminem concert once if that counts...

I was on the same plane as Smokey Robinson one time. I had no idea who he was at the time. My mom had to mention who he was to me.

I met **** Sargent (Bewitched) when I was a kid. And I met Barbara Mandrell on a fishing trip in Kentucky. Went fishing with her son, and played Candyland with her daughter.

If "being near" counts then a few people get added to my list.

I met the naturalist Chris Packham at an event at a charity he supports. He seemed like a nice guy. I met a few Christian metal bands in the late 80s. One Bad Pig, Whitecross, Detritus, Seventh Angel, Charizma, and probably a couple of others I forgot.

My wife saw Damon Hill at Waterloo Station in London. She also met Amy Grant.

Depending on how near I have to be to count as "being near", I've walked and cycled past the gates of Buckingham Palace several times, I was close enough to touch the riders when the Tour de France came through London in summer 2014, close enough to touch the riders when the Olympic Road Race came through London in summer 2012, close enough to touch the riders during the Olympic Time Trial in summer 2012, and briefly stood in the royal box at Wimbledon.

I also met the captain of the Queen Elizabeth, although not sure whether that really counts
