I've no problem with that. But we do have an accepted idea of what is called ministry in the West. It's generally associated with a church, or a group of like-minded churches.

Ah, I guess I didn't thoroughly read the OP...is this thread about ministry or general callings to godly vocations? If it's about the call to be a pastor then everyone ignore my posts :)

If you've been given a word, then it will be easy to be confirmed by those over you.

Or those around you. If you are in a situation where, for whatever reason, you don't have a "home church" (I know a few people in just that situation and was in it myself for a time) then other Christians you fellowship with can be used by God in just the same manner.

If you're looking for a home church and feel God is leading you to be a Bible study teacher (just to take an example) you might get the kind of situation where someone suggests you visit a church and when you get there you see they are looking for Bible study teachers, and (totally unprompted) the minister mentions it to you in the course of conversation. I wouldn't expect any church to allow a new person to be teaching right away - they should get to know you first to make sure your walk is sound and your theology is sound - but sometimes things just fall into line like that.

Some time ago I was away on business for several weeks and visited a church. I wanted to have a chat with the minister about a couple of things but wasn't sure how to go about doing it as a visitor. I got chatting to another member of the congregation (just a conversation, nothing special) and totally out of the blue they commented on the exact thing I wanted to raise and before I'd even responded they were talking about how open the minister was to people expressing what was on their minds.

He specifically said ministry.

Yeah, he said that. But he also asked a question that wasn't specific to the office of the Holy Ministry. That's why I'd like to know which way we're going in this thread because it's like they're are two different conversations taking place :)

So basically you just have a job where you help people. That's cool.
I think you have very narrow definition of ministry. I see what I do a ministry just as much as any position I have held in the church

i think "we" make it a mystery by attaching values to things from worldly perspective instead of a godly perspective...then if what we are called to (which as hamster pointed out will always be a part and to the building up of the body of Christ )
Then when the things we are called to do don't match up to our self imposed value system we see no value in them and think we are not achieving the calling ..
when ,in truth , as long as we are doing the one thing the lord is presently asking of us .. we are right in the middle of his calling :)
..............
i learned to day a reminder .. to do what is right in love and compassion .. not what we "feel" (for as the saying goes ..love is not a feeling it is an act of your will -a limited but good perspective )

i had opportunity to call in on a guy i met some months back ..he lives alone and had a stroke ,doesn't get out much .i met him due to doing a repair at his place . the first time i was there ...he offered me a cup of coffee.. -i never accept those .. but after 10-15 plus years of not accepting .the lord prompted me with the words from Heidi baker .."to love the one "
so i accepted and we sat and chated over a cup and i shared the gospel in a quiet manner .
then i called on him again.. another time for a chat.

then today i was very near his address and i thought to call on him ... "a feeling came to me .. "don't do it " .. `i do not know why but i ignored the feeling and chose to do what was right in love " .. why would i not do so ,he is semi paralyzed, doesn't get out much and all and alone .. why would i get a feeling to "not call on him" ... that is so like the enemy to keep a person isolated .
So contrary to my "feelings" i called on him and he was VERY pleased and he blessed my socks off . because he told me he walked down the road the other day and a lady walking stopped to talk with him on the street and she Also talked to him about the lord , he said ... "and we had ourselves a "service " on the side of the road . ..

you see my point is - Sometimes we think we are alone and not "in a calling " .yet there is this one person ,this lost sheep and one is sowing life to him and another is watering the seed and both .. unknown to one another are in the perfect center of their calling in God and not even realizing it .

lets stop looking for "the calling " and just get to the loving :):)

this was in response to the OP -im repeating myself lol (with tiny edit )

You are the one who said your church equips, yet they didn't equip you for your job.
