I support very little gun control. The fact is that people who abuse guns would hurt people one way or another. Control only hurts those who czn handle their firearms.

I remember a funny cartoon a few years ago where one caveman just clocked another caveman with a boulder. And the liberal cavemen were wringing their hands, screaming & demanding ROCK CONTROL laws! LOL

Matter of a fact, I even support non-violent felons getting their gun rights back once they have completed their ENTIRE sentence. People make mistakes and if their crime had nothing to do with a gun why should they lose that right for LIFE?

I mean I am not saying VIOLENT criminals should get that right back, but there are a LOT of non-violent felonies that have NOTHING to do with weapons, and yet those convicted lose their right to own guns for life. In some cases, people cannot even keep guns if they are LIVING with a felon; even if he or she has NO record themselves.

The thing of it is if said felon has turned around and is told they cannot own a gun they will follow that law. Those who do not care will break the law and get one, anyway.

exactly, the only ones that obey are law abiding to begin with. If you want a gun and cannot legally buy one there are multiple ways of obtaining one

so there is no point in not allowing them to have guns because frankly the ones who mean ill with them will probably get them anyway. The ones who want them for self-defense, hurting ECT will follow the law and NOT get one.

Exactly. You can go to a gun show and not go through a background check, you can also go to any city and buy a gun off the street if you choose

The people who want them for the right reasons though will usually respect the laws.

I believe in the existing background checks and waiting periods. Ronald Reagan said my view the best:

We should have the freedom to own guns period. The second amendment is clear. Guns dont kill, people do. An old cliche but a very true one. A gun is an inanamate object that is neitheer good or bad, it is the person behind it that is good or evil.
I couldn't agree more. We support the NRA.

Of course we should have the right to bear arms. But we have to try and control the guns that might get into the wrong hands.

Of course we should have the right to bear arms. But we have to try and control the guns that might get into the wrong hands.

The trouble is it's hard to have one without the other.

Either the "wrong hands" is defined in a reactive sense, in which case legislation is always playing catch-up. Or you have excessive controls on people who have never done anything wrong because some computer system somewhere decided that they represented a risk of going off the rails.

Fundamentally the price we pay for an open society is that some within that society would seek to harm us, and unless we want to curtail the freedoms of all the best we can do is respond to transgressions after the fact. That reactive response can usually only ever hope to stop something from ever happening again, rather than stopping it from happening the first time. To stop it from happening the first time the would-be victim needs the means to protect themselves, and the very same deadly weapons that might be used by the victim for self-defence can be used by an aggressor for offense. And so the circle is complete.

Neither does taking peoples rights away from them make sense . We have given up far to many freedoms in the name of safety

That is true.
