I've donated to a few people who had them, usually $20 or less, but have never done one myself.

Have never needed to do one for myself. I have donated to a few and these few are ones I know or know through our church body Ones I can verify the need.

It's very tough to do anything with it unless you can market on social media etc., so it's no different than with a business.

If I've ever used GoFundMe it was only once, when a friend was raising money for abseiling down some big structure or another.

When it's someone I don't know I don't use it at all, because unless I know there is actually a need I don't feel like giving money so a stranger can just have some free money. Likewise I think I'd have to be in a desperate situation to post something asking strangers for money when they have no way of knowing whether I really have a need or just don't feel like paying my own bills.

If I'm going to give to a cause I'd rather give directly than through a platform, and do it in a way that doesn't siphon off some of the donation in fees.
