God's Only Son and Sons of God

How do you explain to people who see the terms "God's only Son" and "Sons of God" and wonder how Jesus can be God's only Son when scripture talks about other sons?

I know that Jesus is God's only Son and that the term used for "sons of God" doesn't make it any less true. I'm just wondering how you would explain the differences to people?

Jesus is God's only begotten son on earth, both God and Man in one, born of woman with no earthly father, and a terrestrial being living on the earth with other men, not a spiritual or heavenly one as in the sons of God who mated with the daughters of men.

And not only that, but. He gave us the power to become sons of God!

John 1:12
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:.../KJV

So that's good news! Now we have to exercise it and diligently pursue after Him! Climbing the Mountain of God gets steep fast!

All other "sons" and "daughters" of God are adopted children; Jesus is the only eternal Son of God from the past, present, and into the future. The KJV mistook two, almost-identical participles for each other by translating one "begotten," whereas the proper translation is "eternal" or "unique" Son for Jesus.

Learn sumin new every day! I didn't know that. I knew that Jesus was God's only begotten Son, and I just knew that was something special (theat we are not!) and sets Him apart in some way. That was enough for me! I figured I'd get the answer sooner or later.
