This comes from a crisis discussion in the Chatbox; the very foundation of the Church may depend upon it.

In your opinion, what are frippery, junk, and rubbish? How do they relate to each other, and how has Hyacinth Bucket influenced this in your life?

Feel free to include any other frippery that may skitter across your brain's synapses. :groupheads:

Frippery is ornament lace and all manner of pretty but not very useful things. Junk is similar. Rubbish is discarded frippery and other refuse. Mrs Bucket had no influence on these definitions

Frippery isn't a word I use or have ever heard used in every day speech. If it means lacy or showy - in terms of clothing I own no such items.

Junk - Anything that is taking up space, not being used - and not likely to be used at any point in the foreseeable future. This label is completely relative to the person making it, as one man's junk is another's treasure.

Garbage - differs from junk in that it not only takes up space, is not being used or likely to be - but also that it rots, smells and may infect other things with it's smelly rottenness.

Generally, garbage is not redeemable - best burned or buried where worms and insects can do their job of turning it into something useful. That being said, some garbage is redeemable - I speak here of human garbage - the people who spread slander, lies and exaggerations, who repay good deeds with evil wickedness. Such persons are "garbage", at least - they are to me - but they are redeemable if they confess and repent. Their "God" or "Jesus" talk don't mean diddly to me otherwise - in fact, it only makes me think less of them.

Frippery - All of the inconsequential extras that, when taken together in the context of a thought, or the appearance of a thing, all sounds (or looks) very nice, but can easily be done away with without losing the meaning of the thought or the ambiance of the appearance of the thing (or something...)

Junk - Everything that needs to be thrown out when I question if I really need it or not

Rubbish - Trash (dirty 'Kleenex', and the like), or anything that someone says that is clearly uneducated nonsense ("what a bunch of rubbish!")

I might have seen Mrs. Bucket but I'm not quite sure. The video looks familiar. How long ago was it on?
