Before the new pope was chosen, there were memes and videos going around with Trump as the pope and some of my online friends took great offense. They berated anyone who thought it was funny. But now I'm seeing memes of the new Pope and his being from Chicago...the connection such as being dressed in the Bears colors and holding pizzas, and that's funny.

Do you have friends who choose what they're going to be offended by like that? To me it doesn't make sense that they enjoy the Pope being mocked by being from Chicago, but not being mocked by anyone else that they disagree with.

To paraphrase the title of a book I've read there is a "subtle art of not giving a (care)"
In life we only have so many cares to give about different things. If we disregard our values and direction we want to go in life, it's possible we could care about many things - agree or disagree with things that, in the grand scheme of life, really don't matter much.
I basically ignore news as much as I can right now. I don't care for Trump (the man) but he's made some decisions I do agree with. But I don't make it a life issue. Neither do I make it a life issue who is selected as Pope. However, I wish him all the blessings and grace God can bestow on him.

That's a good way of looking at things.

I always like to ask myself, "How important is this?" when faced with worldly concerns. Some of what I let dominate me and control my feelings actually is, but the vast majority of it is not.

When I read the title to this thread, I thought, people who like to gossip.

I have learned that Jesus abhors gossip, so I dont think or debate anything with these people and their fishing lines.

You see, the danger in gossip is that it is more destructive in nature than many things, because in order to gossip you must plant a seed of bitterness within your heart. The more you gossip, the more it grows into a root of bitterness and it becomes better rooted so is harder to dislodge. Not a good thing for the heart. Scripture tells us to diligently Guard our heart.

Has anybody ever met a bitter old person? We all have! They are not nice people. They are, bitter people. And it makes them feel better (??) to talk trash and gossip about someone that they decided they dont like, and that is no good for it feeds the root of bitterness.

We know from scripture, that, in the power of the tongue reside life and death. Words mean something, a lot. Should we speak blessings or cursing's over our fellow man? Scripture says to even bless our enemies.

Stay away from Gossip my friends! It is more dangerous than you might think! It will damage your heart with Bitterness. And you thought Bitterness was a low level thing, didn't you? Be Careful!
