(The Guardian) The former US congressman John Burton, a salty-tongued and unabashedly liberal San Francisco Democrat who stood up for the working class and nurtured countless political careers, including that of Nancy Pelosi, died Sunday. He was 92.

Burton died in San Francisco of natural causes, his family said in a statement.

Tributes poured in from California’s top politicians, who recalled Burton as a fierce and tireless advocate for laborers, foster children and the environment. Over the years, Burton mentored Pelosi, former US senator Barbara Boxer, current US senator Alex Padilla and countless other California officials.

“There was no greater champion for the poor, the bullied, the disabled, and forgotten Californians than John Burton. He was a towering figure – a legendary force whose decades of service shaped our state and our politics for the better,” said Governor Gavin Newsom, a former mayor of San Francisco, in a statement.

Another former San Francisco mayor, Willie Brown, said that death had managed to separate him from a dear friend who was by his side for decades – as college students where they first met, as fellow newbies in the state Assembly and as influential members of California’s Democratic political machine. “John Burton may have been the best person with whom I served as a member of the legislature,” said Brown.

Given Rep. Burton is now one with the Ages, shouldn't the judging be left up to Christ at the Final Judgment?

Men judge worldly things according to their own standards, God judges men's souls by his which may be quite different than the ones we use on each other.

Even though we don't have a rule against calling leaders bad names, we really don't think that that type of language should be used on a Christian forum :(

The “type of language” is English.

I was referring to the term libtard. It's derogatory and we do have some liberals here on the forum since it's open to all.
This is true, I think it is best to always keep in mind that there is enough hostility in the world already and we needn't add more to it by using insulting words, words some would call fighting words.

I understand the concern- it's also an English noun, according to Merriam Webster's, albeit a derogatory one. But in this case, completely appropriate.

John Burton, a salty-tongued and unabashedly liberal San Francisco Democrat...

I can understand the concern, had I referred to another member here is such a way. I didn't.

Hence why I made the reference above.

Men judge worldly things according to their own standards, God judges men's souls by his which may be quite different than the ones we use on each other.

That is true. But this thread memorializes a man that represents much of what is wrong in California where he had influence for decades, and also Democrat-led cities across the country. They have become the bane of politics and society.

Consider the recent stabbing death of Iryna Zarutska on the commuter train in Charlotte North Carolina. She was brutally murdered by a man who had been arrested and released 14 times, by salty-tongued and unabashedly liberal Judges and DA's who refuse to prosecute and punish dangerous criminals.

I agree with what Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy said, warning that he will pull Federal funding:

"Democrat-led cities such as Charlotte, North Carolina, that don't protect citizens on public transit systems should not receive federal funding."

"It’s not just Charlotte, it's New York, it's Chicago, it's Boston. It's others who failed to keep their riders safe," Duffy told host Rob Finnerty. "Again, they have these priorities where again, if you ride a train, it's for the homeless or it's for the criminals, not for the good people of your community. And so in this investigation, we're going to look and see how much their money is actually spent on law enforcement, keeping people safe."

"We got here because we have liberal politicians, whether it's a DA, it's a city council, it's mayors, it's governors who don't stand up and fight for the people they're supposed to fight for."
